![]() Gravepyres School for the Recently Deceased Later on, we are shown the brutality she suffered to become such a formidable creature. And her only purpose in life is to protect Jag. ![]() But she was brought up to be an assassin. She’s an idealist who goes to fae bars trying to feel something more than the money and power her family has. But she longs for a world where goblins don’t dominate and persecute the rest of the fae. She is the daughter of one of the big goblin families in the City of Iron. The book is broken up into chapters and each chapter is broken into subsections about a particular character But it got very good and very exciting very quickly. I dithered about reading this book and I had a slightly hard time getting into it (probably because I wasn’t exactly sure if I wanted to read it). Like a bird attracted to shiny things, when I see an interesting-looking book come by my desk at work, I decide to read it–no matter how big my tipping over pile of other books to read happens to be. But one thing that Charlie wants is not expensive–it is information. Ahmet has a ton of security because he has a ton of expensive things in his house. Now she is sneaking into a party in Giza, Egypt, at the penthouse of Ahmet Shah, the oldest son of a wealthy shipping magnate. At the end of the last book Charlie has escaped from the CIA as well as the Mossad, the national intelligence agency of Israel. Staying in Egypt, the book shifts to the present day. And her great treasure was destroyed wit her. She did not kill herself with an asp–rather, she drank poison and burned down her mausoleum. She discovered this and was preemptive about her own fate. Octavian lied about how he would treat Cleopatra after Mark Antony’s death. Cleopatra and her husband Mark Antony were united in a war against Octavian–but they had lost. Cleopatra was being held prisoner by Octavian–Julius Caesar’s nephew. The Prologue is set in Alexandria, Egypt in 30 BC. I have just checked out the book and the first chapter is fantastic. In the acknowledgements, Gibbs, heaps praise on the book Cleopatra: A Life by Stacy Schiff. Except that everything we know is incorrect! The course of (male) history has been very unkind to Cleopatra–she was an amazing woman and ruler and has been historically described as little more than an exotic temptress. One of the things I liked best about this book was the historical information about Cleopatra. Our excitement was justified, because Stuart Gibbs has created a great heroine, an intriguing mystery and a thoughtful historical quest. Sarah brought this home and was very excited about it. This is the third book in the Charlie Thorne series. Charlie Thorne and the Curse of Cleopatra The one thing that was clear was that the vakari inadvertently created The Weep during the war. The rip is called The Weep, and I feel like I never quite got the hang of how or why the Weep happened. Brood are deadly, seemingly invisible monsters that have come through a rip in the Void (which you have to learn about). The war is over now and her primary purpose is to stop The Brood. She was orphaned during the Expansion War and joined the templars because she believed in their mission. Lieutenant Iari is a tenju templar (which you have to learn about and which I don’t think I fully did, but tenju are rather large humanoid race with tusks). ![]() There are two main characters in this book. I accepted the new world, but you have to learn so much to get up to speed with everything that it can feel like a slog even if you are flying through the pages. There’s a lot of “hard” science fiction in this story, which is probably more of the reason why it was hard to get into it. But it is set far in the future so there is no overlap with characters or anything like that. This book is set in the same world as the Rory Thorne books. And in some respects it was hard to get into this book because there’s a lot of made up stuff here and you really have to get into the world and the vocabulary and it was a bumpy start for me. I have gotten so into the audiobook world that I’ve been listening far more than I’ve been reading. Shockingly for me I haven’t been reading many books this year. I had audiobooked the first duology and loved the world that Nicole Poole read to me.īut now I was jumping in to the print version. I had no idea that she had a new duology out until this book came to my desk at work. Eason’s The Thorne Chronicles (How Rory Thorne Destroyed the Multiverse).
